Ski & Sail - Sony Aplha

In the fall of 2021, I got a text message from my friend Emmet Sparling, thinking about planning a ski and sail trip for Sony Alpha in the Northern parts of Norway. Hopefully capturing some Northern lights and sailing through the fjords.

All I had to say was - I’m down, I’ll help you plan it.

I’ve been on boats before, sailed through stormy days puking on deck, and jumped into the ice-cold water after a day of ski touring. I know what it takes, it takes experience to make such a trip enjoyable. It takes the right mentality to embrace the weather, and the conditions, it definitely takes a big chunk of patience because a sailboat might move easily between fjords, but compared to a car, it’s actually kind of slow.

I started looking for the right guide, boat, and skipper to help me put the foundations into place. As the winter moved through, our schedules got a lot busier, swapping around dates to make it work for the crew joining the trip.

We ended up sailing with Halvard on his boat Bifrost with Christian as a ski guide. It could not have been more perfect. the experience within the crew to capture moments, the captain and skipper being local superheroes on what they do, and whether that delivered sun almost every day. Add a bit of northern lights to the mix and you have the most amazing 7 days you can ask for.
